61 pct of firms in Japan positive about generative AI use: survey

Over 60 percent of companies in Japan have a positive attitude about using generative artificial intelligence in their operations, a recent research survey showed.
Some 9.1 percent of companies polled said that they are utilizing generative AI in their operations, and 52.0 percent said that they are considering using the technology, according to an online survey by Japan’s Teikoku Databank published on Tuesday.
The survey, conducted by the credit research company for four days through Thursday, received valid responses from 1,380 companies.
Meanwhile, the proportion of companies that have compiled internal rules on the use of the AI technology stood at only 1.2 percent.
The survey also found that 23.3 percent said that they are not considering the use of generative AI in their operations, citing concerns over data breaches.
Restrictions on the use of generative AI would have more disadvantages than advantages as long as common safety precautions, such as no input of personal information, are followed, said an official of a real estate company covered by the survey.
